History of the Cartier Tank

Created in 1917 by Louis Cartier, the Cartier Tank was inspired by the Renault tanks used during the First World War. Its unique rectangular design, with clean, elegant lines, has built its image into a watchmaking icon for over a century. The watch has been worn by many iconic figures such as Jackie Kennedy and Andy Warhol, reinforcing its status as a timepiece that is as essential as it is timeless. The Tank has evolved over the decades with multiple variations, while maintaining its distinctive style and prestige in the unique world of watchmaking.

Sewn with linen thread

SADDLER POINT

All Cartier Tank straps are hand-sewn using a saddle stitch, performed by specialized artisans. This artisanal technique, more resistant than machine stitching, uses two independent threads that form a knot at each stitch, ensuring strength and durability. The 0.35 mm linen thread is selected for its fineness and natural weave, bringing a touch of elegance that perfectly harmonizes with the timeless and refined style of the Cartier Tank collection.

Better durability

SEALED EDGES

The bracelets designed for the Cartier Tank feature sealed edges to ensure long-lasting durability. After an initial sanding of the edges, several layers of special paint are applied to protect the raw parts. Between each layer, a further sanding is carried out to achieve a smooth and even finish. This process is repeated until the edges are perfectly finished, combining protection and elegance, in perfect harmony with the timeless design of the Cartier Tank.

Zermatt Leather

Hypoallergenic

The straps for the Cartier Tank are lined with Zermatt leather from the Haas tannery, specially designed for use as a lining. This soft leather guarantees optimal comfort, even after long hours of wear. Resistant to water and perspiration, it is perfect for hot and humid climates, ensuring great durability. This choice of leather not only ensures a long life for the strap, but also a comfortable fit throughout the day, in harmony with the elegance of the Cartier Tank.
